iPhone 14 Pro Videos Won't Play on Photos After Repair but Could Before
The title sums it up, I'm in a similar situation as this closed thread, does anyone know if there's a fix for users of older MBPs running Big Sur? I'm guessing the issue has to do with the OS being limited to Big Sur on the MBP 2014 and maybe something changing in the encoding in HEVC for later OSs. My wife ran Repair on her Photos the same day on her MacBook Air running Monterey and she can play HEVC files without any issues.
All of the photos from my iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro were accessible/playable on my MBP (2014 capped at Big Sur) in High Efficiency (HEIC and HEVC) until I ran Repair on Photos. When my 60k photo/video library completed downloading from iCloud, the HEIC photos work but the HEVC video files only load the preview photo with the Unsupported Video Format and Error Downloading Video warnings and can't play. I had been getting the Unsupported Video Format errors from other non-iPhone cameras for a while but never from my iPhones.
Both error warnings point to More Info in this Apple Support article last updated on November 12, 2020 and it doesn't address the iPhone incompatibility on Macs:
