Siri turns on the wrong lights (topic is HomeKit)

There's no option for a HomeKit topic but this is HomeKit related.

In my living room, I have four sets of lights:

  • standing lamp lights (a floor to ceiling lamp with three bulbs)
  • a light strip
  • ceiling lights (three bulbs in a mount on the ceiling)
  • entertainment lights (two backlights behind the TV)

If I tell Siri to turn on the "living room ceiling lights" she turns on all of the lights. If I tell her to turn off the "living room standing lamp" she turns off all of the lights.

I can't begin to describe how frustrating this is. I just want my voice assistant to turn on or off only the lights I tell it to, and no others.

How do I fix this?

If all your lights are on the same room Siri is going to get confused. For example I put my backlit tv lights in another (non existent) room called “TV Room”. This would work and perhaps you want the light strip in the tv room as well?

Siri does understand the name of the bulb it got identified in during set up. If I ask to turn off my office light it replies “hue colour bulb 7 is off”. It was my 7th bulb I added. I know this isn’t ideal but it’s all that works for now.
