2FA when switching SIM cards

I just wanted to buy airtags and noticed the discussion about 2FA needed. Well I try to avoid it by all cost as I travel a lot internationally and switch SIMs so I cannot get a call or text for 2FA.

Is there any way to get around this? What I am supposed to to when traveling and don't have access to my US number?

Two Factor Authentication is unusable if you have no signal! Why does Apple not realize that when people travel sometimes they are in areas with NO SERVICE, so 2 Factor Auth doesn't work, and using a trusted number is also NOT an option because your travel partner also doesn't have a signal? I have to keep opting out of it because I regularly travel to areas in the USA with no signal, (they exist) but still need my phone for other functions, and I have read horror stories of people unable to use their phone for anything if they can't 2FA because of no signal. The Apple Genius I spoke with confirmed this is a problem and that once you get 2FA, you can't opt out. This is also a problem in a foreign country when your cell provider doesn't have foreign roaming without ridiculous fees. The annoying thing about this is I am unable to use Apple Pay or Apple Wallet without 2FA. Apple needs to make an Authenticator app that does not require access to internet or cell service for 2FA.

Forced to use 2FA when overseas When I am away from home (Australia) I do not use my Australian SIM because of the high roaming fees. Instead I use a ‘data only’ cellular service (Yesim). Apple wants me to confirm changes using a 2FA code sent to my disabled SIM. Why couldn’t this code be sent to an email address? It is not just Apple. It’s really frustrating to discover that Apple-Nanny will not let me run my life in a way that suits me (I want to decide the balance of risk and reward)

You need to change/add the number on your Apple ID. Look in the Security section when signed in online. You may have to add the new number before you can remove the old number. After the change, allow up to 24 hours for the change to sync. Before trying to make the change, sign out of Messages/FaceTime on all devices/computers.
