Battery temperature

Run the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected.

When I'm monitoring system temps I tend to mostly concentrate on the CPU & GPU temps since the other temps are usually irrelevant for my needs so I've rarely checked the battery temps during my system stress tests. The battery temp will be related to the overall system & CPU temps. Remember the battery temp at idle is probably about 35C so you have to expect the battery temperature to be more than the idle temp when the CPU is at 95C. I'll see if I can try to run a test tomorrow to see what the battery temp gets to with a system stress test. I wouldn't expect the battery temperature get any higher than 50C though.

The fact that the fans very running at what sounds like their base RPM, I'd say all is normal. The Mac's circuitry will do theh best job of managing heat.

All batteries heat up when supplying a heavy power flow which watching videos can be in many cases.

As of 2022 macOS Monterey w/zsh, this command will display CPU/GPU temps and Fan speed:

sudo -S powermetrics –samplers smc | grep 'Fan:\|CPU die temperature:\|GPU die temperature:'



Should come back looking like this:

Fan: 4814 rpm
CPU die temperature: 70.88 C
GPU die temperature: 62.94 C

Just to follow up.....I have run a few stress tests on some other laptops including a 15" model, but I haven't had time to do so on the 13" 2016/2017 model. On the other models though, the battery temperature did not rise significantly and stayed below 40C. I'll try to run a stress test next week on a 13" 2016/2017 model.
