2017 Macbook Pro 15" Battery drains out

Hi.. I have a macbook pro 15" I bought to see me through the next couple of years of study.... I was sent a non-mac charger with it.. everything seems ok, in working order, it charges to 100%, but does not hold the charge for more than 1-2 hrs, when not in use and unplugged, when in use, it drains much quicker.

Is this normal for the age? or might it be the non mac charger?.. is it worth replacing the battery? would it warrant the apple mac free replacements battery for the 2017 version? or should i send it back for a refund.. i paid £500 for it off a friend. Also noted the back of the machine gets really hot, I don't hear a fan start up.. its silent.

Any advise please would be appreciated.. than k you
