Go to Setting > General > About > Carrier Lock and if it shows unlocked you can use any SIM.

Mine says sim locked, it was sent to me from USA and now I’m living in east africa (Ethiopia) so what should I do?
Contact the carrier it is locked to and ask what their unlock policy is and if you qualify. Go to Settings > General > About > Cattier Lock to check with it is locked to.
