change password

I go through all the steps, and it claims to complete the change, but nothing changes. The old password still works. The answer I got earlier from a so called "expert" was pages long, and included typing lines of commands in Terminal. Really? I have to type in three pages of code to change my password?

Is there anybody out there who knows why anybody buys a Macbook? I feel like a moron to have spent thousands on this piece of crap.
