Free Wi-Fi problem

Okay so when you try to connect to open a normal free internet there’s usually a catch. You get sent to a website and you have to accept their terms right? Well, i do not get sent to those websites and therefore I can’t connect to the Wi-Fi. I have a new iPhone, first time user. But I read that you have to open like safari after you connect to the Wi-Fi but that doesn’t work either. Is there like a setting I need to change for this to work?

Those are called captive wi-fi network logins. See the information here if you are experiencing a problem with accessing those networks. Use captive Wi-Fi networks on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
