How do I delete my husbands messages off my iMessages?

My husband took my MacBook for work, but ended up giving it back. I didn't realize he was still logged into iMessages until I saw his friend text while I using my MacBook. I logged him out of iMessages and made sure I logged out his Apple ID, but his text history is still visible. How can it possibly be that I see his texts when I logged him out??? This is ridiculous! And if I delete his messages it will delete off his phone...SMH

And the same is happening with my iMac that he is now using... he logged me out of iMessages and logged out of my Apple ID BUT he can still see my texts in iMessages app...

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.13

Hello CKellySnap,

It sounds like you've signed out of your husbands Apple ID on your Mac, but you are still receiving his text messages.

Here are some resources that can help:

  • It is expected behavior to still see the message history after signing out of the Apple ID. Ensure the Apple ID is signed out of Preferences > Messages. From there you can delete the messages without the changes syncing to the other devices. Set up Messages on Mac.

  • Check your "You can be reached at" information on both devices:
    • Mac: Messages > Preferences > Messages
    • iPhone: Settings > Messages > Send and Receive

In the future, an alternative step you can take when using one another's Mac, is to create a user account for the other Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. This way you don't have to redo Messages every time it is used. If you need to share files, see Share files with others who use your Mac

Hope this information helps.

Have a good day.
