problem connecting ethernet via satechi st-tcma2m (multi port) on new macbook pro m1 14 inch

Hi

Can anyone help. I have a new macbook pro m1 14 inch and have just bought a satechi multiport adapter to expand my ports. It has an ethernet port.

When I connect my cat7 ethernet cable, i don't get an internet connection.

can anyone advise how to troubleshoot or connect. thanks

i have the latest osx software.

i've checked the ethernet cable which works on my other laptop.

Ok I managed to sort the problem.

I opened network preferences

clicked on the 3 dots & selected manage virtual interfaces

clicked on '+' to add a new interface called 'untitled bridge'

clicked 'apply'

green light displayed it was connected

turned off wi-fi to test internet connection over ethernet

worked fine

renamed the interface to 'thunderbolt Satechi'

the device I'm using is a Satechi st-tcma2m - v2 ( the aluminium model)

It has added a host of additional ports including 3 usb A, Gigabyte ethernet, 2 sd card slots, extra HDM1 (4K), and pass through power charging via USB C.

You don't need to turn OFF Wi-Fi, just make sure Wi-Fi is SECOND on the list of interfaces. Use the gear Icon below the list to "Set service Order" by dragging into the desired order. Certain "Location" information is obtained from via Wi-Fi from your Router.

Packets going to the Internet use the TOPMost, Working interface. When your Ethernet is available, it will be used. When not available, the TOPMOst work interface (which would then be Wi-Fi) will be used instead.
