iCloud has stopped connecting to server. Internet otherwise OK
A few days ago, I became unable to use any iCloud tools on my iMac. All other online access OK. Received message saying iCloud was unable to contact server.

Previous couple of days iCloud & AppStore were having problems, says it fixed but who knows...
Apple - Support - System Status
Are you running any VPN, Anti-Virus, or Cleaning apps?

EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac. It will not display any personal info.
Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…
Whew, they've changed pastebin & made it harder, but after pasting in, click Create new paste button, then Embed button, then copy the URL...

The important part of the above is between the quote marks...

If pastebin is a problem for you then workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...
No, I don’t think so. Just running Mojave (10.14.?) on iMac. I know I’m behind; that’s a whole other thing. One day I started getting a message that iCloud was unable to contact the server. Also can’t get Apple News. Anybody else having this problem?
I’m having no trouble on my iPhone or iPad.
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does it work in the new account?
First of all, Thank you very much for the advice. Safe Boot works. I can access iCloud (and therefore my mail), although it takes a lot of time every time.
I did create a new admin account, but it didn't work any better.
I have a number of other problems involving the mail app, OS upgrades, and communication with my printer, so I'm thinking of putting the **** thing in its box and schlepping it to an Apple store with a Genius Bar (we don't have one in my town). Does that sound like a productive plan?
Thanks again.
