epson printer not printing photos setup from macos 11.6.1

my epson xp-860 is not printing my photos 6.0 setup from my imac macos 11.6.1. instead, it is printing from the letter cassette, 2. am i doing something stupid? do i need to update software? if so, which software?

since my epson updates come from apple, i assume any epson update would have come and been installed.

when i go to the epson troubleshooting site, it doesn't even "detect" macos 11.6.1.
