I can’t add my sons bank card to apple pay

My son is 12 and we have just got him a card but it won’t let me add it to his applet pay wallet - I really didn’t want him walking round with the card in case he loses it!

Children under 13 cannot add cards to their account. They can use Apple Cash (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211324).
