Why aren’t my saved passwords available on my MacBook Air?

I recently bought a MacBook Air. I’ve had iPhones & iPads for years now, but I finally decided to purchase an actual computer for the first time in many years. All my devices are synced, AirDrop, AirPlay & Handoff are activated on all my Apple products (where relevant, I have an Apple Watch as well.)

But I find that I have to grab my iPhone or iPad, access Passwords, find the site or app I want to log into, and copy the password then paste it into the site/app on my MacBook. So Handoff is working.

But shouldn’t my MacBook have access to Saved Passwords just as my iPhone & iPad do?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.5

Hi there Bhan1213,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand you're wanting some more information on syncing your saved passwords across your Apple devices and we'd be happy to help assist. The feature you are referring to is called iCloud Keychain and it is likely that you have it enabled on your iPhone and iPad but not your Mac.

The support articles below will provide you with some additional information on using iCloud Keychain with your devices and how you can enable it on your Mac as well. Once this is set up , you Mac should be able to autofill this saved information the same way your other devices do.

Use iCloud Keychain to keep information safe on Mac - Apple Support

We hope this helps.

Thanks for letting us know, Bhan1213.

As for removing credit card information you have saved, are you referring to when your payment info is automatically filled on websites when going to make a purchase in Safari? If so, the resource below will walk you through how to access and remove those cards from your Mac.

Autofill credit card info in Safari on Mac - Apple Support

If this is something you're experiencing on your iPad or iPhone, you can use the following article for the steps to turn off and remove your saved cards.

Automatically fill in your information on Safari on iPhone

Best regards.

I have a follow up question but first things first: Thank you! iCloud Keychain was set up on my Mac, but I was having problems with accessing passwords. I did a check of a couple of websites & it all seems to be working. I’ll have to post again if the problem reoccurs.

My follow up question is how do I access the credit card numbers stored in iCloud Keychain? I have a couple of cards that don’t exist anymore & I had removed my checking account debit card everywhere I could find it in my settings, because a couple times, ApplePay inexplicably ignored my preferred payment method, and at least once, even the payment method listed second, and charged items to that debit card. Apple Support never found an explanation, so to prevent my checking account from being used when I didn’t want to, I removed it from my ApplePay & my Wallet. Since I did so, I still had another instance where I used ApplePay & my debit card was used. I checked with the company I was purchasing from, they assured me they billed ApplePay & had no other payment methods on file & Apple Support insisted the problem was with the vendor. I now know why I see my debit card showing up despite thinking I deleted everywhere. How do I delete saved cards from Keychain? I canceled my debit card and got a new one, but now I see that showing up as a suggestion to auto fill credit/debit fields. How do I prevent Keychain from saving credit card numbers? I don’t want to have to use credit cards for everything like autopay on utility bills just to protect my actual money in checking from being accessed without my authorization.

Why aren’t my saved passwords available on my MacBook Air?
