My husband had too much to drink and changed his password and heals turned off his face recognition somehow so he can't use his phone. Is there a solution without him losing everything?

When you follow those instructions it will reset the phone to a “new” condition. Any backups that were made to iCloud or a computer can then be restored and the phone will be in the condition it was when the backup was made.
