All iMovie projects gone after Big Sur update
A few days after updating to Big Sur, I am shocked as I opened iMovie. There's nothing in there anymore.
I have looked up the iMovie library in my user folder: family/Movies/iMovie-Mediathek 2021.imovielibrary. The file is only 189 KB in size! When I open it using "Show Package Contents", I can see that there are no projects inside at all.
I found https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8344612 and was able to locate the Library folder at: /Users/family/Library/Containers/com.apple.iMovieApp/Data/Library/Caches/iMovie Backups.localized/iMovie-Mediathek 2021/ - However the only library found is from today and is 189 KB in size as well.
I found another library which is 6 months old (1 March) - probably I did another MacOS upgrade back then at: /Users/family/Library/Containers/com.apple.iMovieApp/Data/Library/Caches/iMovie Backups.localized/iMovie-Mediathek/ - In there are many backups from earlier than March.
When I opened the latest, iMovie would find all projects and all metadata, but all raw media files are missing still!
I would love to know:
- What happened to my proper iMovie Library? How come that my MacBook simply overwrites it with a plain empty version?
- How can I recover in a way that i get my metadata AND my raw files - just as packaged as they were before this happened?
