Apple make an external CD-RW/DVDRW drive but it has not been updated since 2012 . We see a lot of issues posted here with that drive and newer Macs. I cannot in good conscience recommend it.
Of the OWC offerings, as most people have no need for a BlueRay burner, this one is a good choice:

It comes with an independent power supply for reliable power, uses a tried and true drive mechanism, is USB3 so it is 10X faster than Apple's USB2 drive, and it costs US$5 less than Apple's.

Yes. I suggest the Apple-branded Apple USB SuperDrive - Apple. If you have a new 24" iMac, you'll also need the USB-C to USB Adapter - Apple.

Yes, I STRONGLY recommend selecting one that suits your needs from Macsales.com, they specialize in Macs and can help you select one.
Most CD drives will work with the Mac. I have several different brands and no issue to date.
