Transfer purchased music from iTunes store to iPhone 7, manually

I purchase one song every so often from iTunes store. I plug in my iPhone to my iMac and want to transfer the song to my playlists. It isn't as easy as it used to be. I'm a senior citizen and need a hand to do this. Can someone offer some help, please?

Mucksie,

It does work a little differently than it used to. When you connect your phone to the Mac, the phone icon will appear in Finder, not in iTunes. Carefully follow the steps in here:

I am using Big Sur 11.4 on my iMac. The only sync I can find wants to erase what I already have on my iPhone. Not good.

Mucksie,

Yes, that is how it has always worked, back to day 1 of iTunes and the old iPods. If you have the music in your iTunes/Music library on your Mac, you can just sync the whole thing.
