Reminders not syncing with Apple Watch

I have an iPhone 12 but while Reminders sync just fine between my Mac and iPhone, they don't with the Apple Watch. I just unpaired and paired my Watch the other day and nothing changed. I did some search online and discovered that this is a known issue. Is this still the case? The notifications appear just fine (from my iPhone) but if I open Reminders on my Watch, no sync happens. There are lists on my Watch that I deleted from my iPhone months ago.
