Possible phone hack

My bf has an apple phone & has received a message to say someone has used his account to log onto a different phone ... we are concerned about his phone being hacked. How do we find out?

Was this a pop up message to authorise the log onto another phone? If so, hopefully he clicked no.

If this is an email or text message, or calendar message, then more than likely it is a scam/phishing attempt. Don't click any links or provide any information. Can you post a screenshot of the message?
