do you have "Send as SMS" enabled? it's under Settings -> Messages. if this option is disabled while iMessage enabled, your phone will send iMessages only, ofc, android does have them.

another thing to check is "MMS messaging" - it must be enabled if you send media, like pictures, video etc. for MMS you also need mobile data to be turned on
