The day you upgrade would be the day your payment is charged on a monthly basis.

If you cancel or downgrade, any data above the complimentary 5GB will be expunged with a 30-day period to find an alternative repository for your data.

One cannot pay for an iCloud storage subscription "3 months" in advance.
