Running Catalina but getting messages to update to Big Sur

I have Catalina 10.15.7 installed and running fine. When I go to Check Update a message comes up saying to Upgrade Now - to macOS Big Sur.

It does not seem to be impacting operations but sure is annoying. And makes me wonder what else might be going on.

it's apple's way of letting you know that there's a macOS upgrade available for your mac. there's no harm in ignoring it, but i would recommend upgrading. keeping your mac up to date with the newest macOS is the best (and maybe the only) way to make sure you are using the newest security components and improvements for your mac.
