Do you see nicknames in iOS 14.2 mail instead of full name?

in iOS 14.2 nicknames are showing in the mail instead of full name - this problem did not exist in 13.7 - do you have a similar problem?

Hi, andreyfromnaperville.

We understand that you’re seeing nicknames instead of full names in the Mail app on your iOS device. It sounds like this is a new feature for you, and we may be able to explain.

When a contact opts to share their name and photo in Messages, you get a notification when they send you a message with the option to save their updates. If you opt to save, it will edit your contact for them. You can check the setting for yourself at Settings > Messages > Share Name & Photo.

If the nickname you’re seeing in Mail is the same for the person in Contacts on your iPhone, this is likely the reason.

We appreciate you taking the time to post in the Apple Support Communities.

Warmest Regards.

Hi chuck_3d – the thing is, when I enter a name in iOS 14.2 mail in the to: field instead of the full name of the contact it displays the nickname(s). Using app switcher I switch to another app and back to mail it refreshes to show as expected - the full name of the contact.

In iOS 13.7 it does not do this. So it is a bug... This issue also shows in the recent contacts when you want to share something.

Obviously, you have to have a nickname (or a few of them) in the Nickname field of your contacts to see this problem.

And that switch you referred to is in Off position.
