Depending on what you are doing, the iPhone can get warm, but not too hot to touch. Processor intensive tasks, such as poor cellular signal, graphics intensive games, watching streaming content like movies can cause the processor to work harder and can cause the phone to heat up. Using a rapid charger can cause the battery to heat up as well.
