Safari freezes when cleaning history. Why? Help!

Every time I try to clear my Safari history the program freezes - I get the "Beach Ball of Death." I have to Force Quit Safari. Once I do and reopen it, everything is fine and the history has indeed been deleted. FYI, I currently have no extensions added, and I'm using High Sierra (10.13.6) and Safari 13.1.2.

Anyone else have this issue? More importantly, has anyone had this issue and been able to resolve it?

Thanks in advance.

Hello srosenhaus,

I have a similar problem on a 2012 Mac running High Sierra and Safari 13.1.2 but the history wasn't deleting. I tried deleting the safari preferences in normal and safe mode plus other recommended tricks. It was when I deleted history for "LastHour," then "Today," then "All History" that the application didn't freeze. I hope this helps.
