Why isn't my IMAC desktop recognizing that the OS is not the latest software update? How do i update to the latest version?

This doesn’t tell me anything! I do know that I need to go to icon and click update! What my system is saying is that I have the latest update ! I do not, my system has the memory etc to handle this update but the system itself is telling me I have the latest one
You are correct, i want to update my desktop. Sorry I confused you. I merely was stating that my laptop updated automatically. It is my desktop i wish to update. Should i go to the link and download the update from the link. I have never done it that way before
As dialabrain suggested, download the Combo Update. It is safe to download from the link provided.
To be more sure, once downloaded restart the computer in Safe mode ( Hold Shift Key @ Chime) Then run the installer

I was able to do the update on my laptop
my iMac desktop says that it is the latest update for OS catalina.. it is 10.15. 4,, this is NOT THE LATEST UPDATE, but my software update says it is.. I can't get it recognize that it needs to update
