Airpods wont connect

I just bought a pair of AirPods today. When I got home I was ready to pair them with my iPhone 11. After reading the instructions, it seemed simple. Unfortunately, that has not been the case. The light on the AirPods is flashing green and will not connect. I have double checked to make sure my phone is fully updated and I have reset my phone. I have also tried charging them, but still nothing seems to be working! When I push the button on the back of the AirPods case the light changes to a sold white, but will still not connect... help
