Screen mirroring from iPad to smart tv

My smart tv doesn’t have Apple TV

yet, so I’m trying to connect my iPad to my smart tv and steam that way. Screen mirroring isn’t an option on my iPad, and the HDMI port that I’m using with the attachment to my iPad isn’t recognized. Is there a special attachment I need that I don’t have?
