My phone I want to update it but it won’t why ?

My phone most times when I put it in water the screen starts malfunctioning

but it’s said iPhone 7 is water resistant

It is water resistant, NOT waterproof. If you put it in water, it is most likely damaged beyond repair. You will need to get a new phone and NEVER put it in water.
