just bought a macbook pro, did the internet install of the OS, now I am seeing these 2 pictures. I am not seeing anything to slide on the laptop, I know the mouse is not working.

Turn on the mouse (first image) or the trackpad (second).
If there’s no mouse or trackpad in use, and temporarily re-cabling the mouse or trackpad to the Mac doesn’t sort this, reset the SMC and NVRAM to revert to the internal trackpad.
Or connect a wired mouse, and use that to get going.
A newer mouse got me to this point and was quite capable of moving the cursor on the page showing the images so this caused some confusion. My bluetooth trackpad wouldn't pair, but plugging in an older USB Logitech mouse (i.e. a B120) worked for me.
Reset the SMC and NVRAM, if this persists.
