When you read through the article provided, you will find that an iMac can indeed have the SMC reset. I have quoted an excerpt for you in case you cannot find it.

-I did everything suggested by apple support and the community.
The T2 chip thig
Created a test user account. picked my phos system library and restored,repaired etc over 3-4 days. Deleted the test user account
restarted photos from my usual user apple id and after a while everything restored , repaired in this identity and it works as it should.;))
It’s loadin and updating slowly so I will wait another day or 2 to see if it completes before trying that reset thanks
my 2017 imac does noit have this chip
