Four questions about usability in Spaces in Catalina

1) Is it possible to give spaces in Catalina a more meaningful name than Desktop 1? I'd like to set up permanent spaces for some aspects of my work, so I can just switch and would much prefer to call them 'Work' or 'Play' or 'Study' than 'desktopN'.


2) if I go to some trouble to set up and fine tune each of my spaces, will that set-up be remembered next time I log in?


3) If it won't remember them on its own, can I force my mac to obey me somehow, and set them up again each time? Doing it manually every morning would be a pain in the neck.


4) Is it possible to assign a particular app always to open in a certain space?


I'm working on a dual monitor setup, and have told spaces not to assign a separate space to each display so I can have pristine desktops for Work, Play, study etc.

1) No.

2) You don't really "set up" a Desktop. You can assign apps to a particular Desktop, but if you move some of that app's document windows to a different Desktop, they won't reappear there when you open them again. Documents are not assigned to a Desktop, only Applications.

Also, Full Screen apps get their own Desktop. That Desktop will appear in sequential order from when the app was sent to Full Screen.

4) Yes, ctrl-click on the desktop icon and use the Options submenu to assign it to a Desktop.


You have your monitors set up to allow apps to span across the two, simulating a single display. There is no way to set up Mission Control to assign a app to a particular location on the Desktop, but the App will remember its location.
