Showing elevation and elevation gain

My Apple Watch 5 will not show elevation or elevation gain while using the hiking activity (or any activity). How can I fix this?

Try this;

On your iPhone --> Settings --> Privacy --> Location Settings --> Compass. There you can change the setting to While Using the App. This will change your setting on your watch and the altitude and other coordinates should appear.

Don't restore from backup though because if there is a software fault it will just get restored again from the backup.Set it up as new.
