HOW TO RESTORE THE PREVIOUS OPERATING SYSTEM

I updated the macOS to Catalina. Unfortunately I encountered some compatibility problems. I would like how to restore the previous operating system. May I simply instal the MacOS High Sierra or I should us Time Machine?

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.15
