When I try to create a slideshow photos get out of order

I created a new album with favorite photos of my daughter through the years. I sorted the photos by date so that they are in chronological order. When I click on "play slideshow" in iphotos the slideshow is in order. When I then go to "File", "Create Slideshow", the slideshow reorders and the photos are out of order. I've tried using the classic theme on the regular "play slideshow" and that is always in order but for some reason when I try to create a slideshow I can export it gets out of order. How can I fix this?

Assuming that you are using the Photos app: Instead of doing File/Create Slideshow try control-clicking on the album in the Photos sidebar. In the dropdown menu that appears, click on Create and then Slideshow. That should preserve the order.
