I go onto the contact name, press edit, delete old address and add new address then press done. New address is saved but old addresses are still there. How do I permanently delete old addresses from my contacts?

thank you but I have now resolved the issue. I have gone on to my iCloud account and changed the information there and it has saved the details on my iPad and iPhone. An obvious way to go but was just too hasty. Thanks for your time.

Lets try restarting your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your iPad until you see “Slide to power off...”
