get data off of an iPad 2 with damaged screen
My screen is so damaged that the iPad 2 doesn't work. I don't want to replace the screen, but want to know if there is a way of getting the data off the iPad before trashing it.

If you've been backing up to iCloud or iTunes, your data is safely stored there and ready to be moved to a new iPad when you set it up from backup.
If you synced data to iCloud, such as photos, messages, etc., are accessible at www.icloud.com Sign in with your Apple ID and Password and use two factor authentication to verify your identity.
If you have not been using iCloud to sync and you haven't backed up to iTunes or iCloud, your data will be lost.
The best solution would be to give it to your local Apple Store for them to recycle it responsibly. Smashing the device would not be environmentally safe.
Thanks. I'll check out icloud. I no longer have any Apple devices. So would I have to simply smash the iPad to trash it so that no one else could replace the screen and see my data?
Thanks!
You're welcome.
Definitely do not smash it. The lithium in the battery is toxic. It needs to be handled by experienced recycling centers.
Thanks. I'll take it to an Apple store.
