Moving MIDI region to another project with different tempo

Hello,

I am experiencing a persistent issue when trying to move a MIDI region between two Logic projects with different tempos. I need the MIDI region to maintain its original absolute playback speed (duration in time) when moved to the new project, rather than conforming to the new project's faster grid.

The Goal:

Move a MIDI region from a Source Project (Tempo: 108.3 BPM) to a Destination Project (Tempo: 120 BPM). The MIDI must play back at its original speed (feeling like 108.3 BPM) within the 120 BPM environment. It should not speed up to match the new grid.

The Problem:

Regardless of the method used, Logic Pro automatically conforms the MIDI data to the destination project's 120 BPM grid upon pasting or importing, causing it to play back too fast.

Methods attempted that FAILED:

Method 1: SMPTE Lock (Copy/Paste)

In the Source Project (108.3 BPM), I selected the MIDI region.

I applied SMPTE Lock (Lock SMPTE Position) to the region. The lock icon appeared.

I copied the region (Cmd+C).

In the Destination Project (120 BPM), I pasted the region (Cmd+V).

Result: The SMPTE lock was ignored upon pasting. The MIDI notes were immediately quantized/conformed to the 120 BPM grid and played back faster than the original.

Method 2: Standard MIDI File Export/Import

In the Source Project (108.3 BPM), I ensured the region was unlocked.

I used File -> Export -> Selection as MIDI File... to save the region.

In the Destination Project (120 BPM), I attempted to bring this file in via two ways:

a) Drag and dropping the .mid file into the Arrange area.

b) Using File -> Import -> MIDI File...

Result: In both cases (a and b), Logic did not present the usual dialog box asking if I want to "Import Tempo Information" or "Keep original timing". Instead, it silently and immediately imported the MIDI file and conformed it strictly to the 120 BPM grid, making it play too fast.

It appears my instance of Logic Pro is aggressively conforming all incoming MIDI data to the current project grid, bypassing standard SMPTE protections and import dialog options.

My System Information:

Logic Pro Version: 11.2.2

macOS Version: Sequoia 15.6.1

Any assistance or insight into why this standard functionality is failing would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
