An iMovie project is almost always too large to email.
The way to share the movie would be to export it to MP4, then upload (save) it to an online service like Dropbox, GoogleDrive, iCloudDrive or OneDrive and then send the video link to your email recipients. They will be able to click through the link to view your video.
I do this with Dropbox, it's quite simple. Export the video from iMovie, upload to my Dropbox account, create a share link, copy the link, paste the link in an email and send the email. But other services will do just as well.
