Mac mini: HomePod mini audio resets after sleep

I recently purchased a Mac mini (m4) with a Samsung external monitor. I'm using a pair of HomePod Mini's for sound. Problem is: I can select the HomePod Mini's for output sound but the Mac resets to its internal speaker when it goes to sleep. I'd like to be able to set the Mini's as default. How can I do this?
