Freeform deletes written content before saving on iPad Pro

I've been using Freeform all semester to take my notes by uploading files from Canvas to them. However, occasionally, (more often than not unfortunately) while I'm writing on the file, it deletes what I've written since the last save, which is very frustrating, especially after I've been writing a difficult equation and it deletes my work. Any idea how I can fix this, or why it's happening? I'm using an iPad Pro, one of the older models, but my friend who has a newer iPad Pro is also experiencing the same issue.
