Incorrect iPhone purchase date impacting Activation Lock

Title: Incorrect Purchase Date Showing on Coverage Page – Need Help

Hello everyone,

I need some help regarding an unusual issue with my iPhone.

I am trying to submit an Activation Lock removal request, and I already have the valid purchase invoice for the device. However, when I checked the AppleCare & Warranty coverage page, it showed an incorrect purchase date — it says the device was purchased in 2007, which is impossible for this model.

Because of this incorrect date, I am worried that Apple might reject my Activation Lock request.

I contacted Apple Support, and they confirmed that they can see the information on my proof of purchase, but the purchase date still appears incorrectly on the website.

I would like to know:

  1. Why would the purchase date display incorrectly?
  2. Is there a way to correct the purchase date manually?
  3. Will this incorrect date affect my Activation Lock removal request?
  4. What steps should I take to make sure Apple updates the purchase date or processes the lock removal correctly?

Any guidance or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Go to:

https://mysupport.apple.com > Click on item to see purchase date and coverage options

Click on this link to read how to update your proof of purchase --> Update your proof of purchase - Apple Support

To update your information contact Apple Support by phone. Tell the advisor that you need help with your Apple Limited Warranty or AppleCare plan expiration date.

Here’s what you need when you call:

- The device serial number

- Your sales receipt

- Your AppleCare agreement number [I presume this is only necessary if you have an AppleCare plan on the item.]

I don't know why it would display that incorrectly. In the case of purchases from a third party the warranty starts on the day the vendor purchased it from Apple, not when you purchased it from the vendor. That clearly is not hte case here with 2207 and an iPhone 15.

I don't know how it would affect a lock request. Nobody here works for Apple and I rarely see this kind of issue posted here and never one meeting your issue exactly.

The purchase date you see on the coverage page is not likely to have any effect on the Activation Lock removal. What matters the most is the proof of purchase documentation you provide for the Activation Lock removal and that would be the same used to update the purchase date. What we have seen here is the proof of purchase documentation that is acceptable is from Apple or Authorized Apple Seller as Apple does not get involved in third party purchases and will not verify authenticity from any other source.

If your proof of purchase is not from Apple or Authorized Apple Seller, then based on previous reports it is likely your Activation Lock removal request will be denied for that reason, not because of the purchase date you see on the coverage page.
