AirDrop not working on iPad with "Contacts Only" selected

Using iPad Air running 18.6.2

This is a problem going back to at least 2017 that Apple has NOT resolved, but that hasn't stopped Apple from shutting down threads on this forum trying to discuss it. So, here in 2025, I am reopening it.

The problem is AirDrop suddenly stops working when settings are set to "Contacts Only." It will work for a while, then stop. After this, it only works on the "Everyone for 10 minutes." (By the way, why ten minutes? It should let ME determine how long or there should be an "unlimited" option. I'm an adult. I can handle it. You are not my mother.)

This needs to be fixed. Please do not ask me to do all the usual nonsense fixes. I have been using Apple products since 1988. I don't ask a forum or tech support until I have done everything. I have tried all the reset/turn off/turn on/ rewrite/ revise/move it closer suggestions. None of that works.

This. Is. A. Problem. With. The. Software.

It is sloppy coding. Fix it.
