How to create a secondary iCloud email account for work?

I need to create an email for work. I would rather have an iCloud email than any of the other dozen or so free email services. Can I create an additional iCloud account, accessible from my other devices? I tried to create an alias, and it appears I did, but it didn’t ask me for a password, or any other information you might normally be asked for when creating an email account. Please help.
