Pages becomes unresponsive after sleep

Pages keeps becoming unresponsive after sleep, but I don't know it until I go to save. Then I get the spinning beach ball, force quit, reopen, and try to remember my edits. I've worked on this doc for four years without problems. (The doc isn't that old—I periodically duplicate and work on a new version.) This has only happened the last two days, about four times. Pages v 14.4. Tahoe 26.1.
