Face ID keeps prompting after iOS update

I am being prompted for Face ID repeatedly after the most recent iOS update. I’m considering changing my phone to non-Apple :( I don’t want to, but Apple stopped caring for their customers.

Thank you very much for a helpful response. I’ve done the following: checked all the privacy settings, restarted the device as advised and started the Face ID setup but dropped the process before taking measurements. This stopped the prompts. I only have the red icon on the settings app which I don’t mind.

  • Tap on Settings
  • Tap on Face ID & Passcode
  • Enter your passcode
  • Tap Reset Face ID

You will not be able to do this if you have Stolen Device Protection enabled; you will have to disable that first.

Alternatively, turn off the 4 switches at the top of Face ID & Passcode.

You should expect to be prompted for Face ID every time you unlock your iPhone, and when you log into an app that is Face ID enabled, such as banking apps. Are you seeing this at other times?

There has been no change it how Face ID works with the latest update.

FaceTime Requirement for Update:

If you Never Set FaceTime Up:

Try a Froce Restart:

A. Go here: Force Restart iPhone - Apple Support

B. Update Again, this Time Through a Computer:

Use my User Tip: Update your iPhone Using a Computer - User Tp

If it comes to it, using Ethernet may be the best route to take, to avoid software glitches. You may need this adapter:

C, Setting Up FaceTime Fresh

For avoidance of this in the future, set up FaceTime:

Go here: Get started with FaceTime on iPhone - Apple Support

D. Also, Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of this, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

Set Up Face ID and Update your iPhone:

The red dot on Settings app icon would indicate a notification about an update. So, to emphasize, continue with setting Face ID (not FaceTime) and then update using a computer. You’d be safe from there for a next login issue.
