Is the new Apple Pencil (USB-C) compatible with iPad Pro 12.9 5th gen?

I have an iPad Pro 12.9 5th generation iPadOS 26 and after my Apple Pencil 2nd generation quit working I went out and bought one of the new type c versions because that’s all that was in stock. I have tried every troubleshooting guide from apple or any other blog, YouTube video, or suggestion on Reddit forums I can find. I went and exchanged it at the store I purchased it from and same deal. I’m starting to wonder if it is actually compatible as it’s claimed on apples compatibility list.

Yes — the Apple Pencil (USB-C) is compatible with the iPad Pro 12.9″ 5th gen. It does not pair wirelessly, so it must be plugged in with a USB-C data-capable cable. Using an Apple USB-C cable and rebooting with the Pencil attached usually resolves the issue.
