Prevent Summing stack header from triggering all container tracks

I use summing stacks to organize the instrument tracks (Spitfire Symphony Orchestra running in Kontakt 8) in my orchestral template in Logic Pro 11.2.2. To save on resources, each individual instrument track is purged of all samples by default. If I accidentally play a note or passage when the Heading track is in focus, it triggers every instrument in the stack (and loads a bunch of samples) so I'm wondering if there is a way to disable that from happening, so i don't have to re-purge samples from each of the component tracks every time I make this mistake.

Would converting the stacks to folder stacks solve this problem?

Set the Summing Stack header to “No Instrument”

If the header track uses an actual Instrument channel strip, it can send MIDI.

Instead:

  1. Select the Summing Stack header track.
  2. Open the Inspector (I).
  3. Under Instrument slot → Choose “No Plug-in”
  4. (Optional) Disable MIDI input with the region inspector → MIDI Thru → No Output

Result:

  • The header track becomes a non-playable control track.
  • MIDI cannot trigger any instruments.
  • You can still use the stack for mixing/organization.

This is the cleanest, safest fix for orchestral templates.
