Difference between following and subscribing to a Discussion

What's the difference between following or subscribing for a Discussion, here, on Apple's Community?

  • Follow = Bookmark the discussion (no emails).
  • Subscribe = Get notifications via email when the discussion updates.

As I understand it: —

  • Follow: link a Community (sub-forum, topic, category of threads/discussions) to your profile.
  • Subscribe: link a specific thread/discussion to your profile.


Threads in which you have participated, are automatically subscribed to.

Subscribed threads and followed topics can be unsubscribed and unfollowed at a later time by deactivating the Subscribe bell or Follow button.

Notifications are optional. See your Profile Preferences (‘Messages from Apple’).

Users can get the recent forum activity for followed topics and subscribed threads from the Profile Subscriptions. This can then be filtered for threads in which you have Participated or have Authored, if so wanted.
